Berrien County Career and Technology Education (CTE) has evolved into a broad system of programs spanning a variety of challenging fields, from Graphic Arts, to Welding, to CISCO, and Professional Health Careers Academy along with many other high skill, high wage, high demand CTE programs.   Each CTE program is designed to enable students to gain skills and knowledge that enriches their high school curriculum and gives them a jump start into future career and/or college success.

Today’s Berrien County CTE programs prepare students for the 21st Century by offering programs of study that allow them to earn college credit while in high school as well as college and career readiness skills; preparing them for employment and further education.

Through Lake Michigan College and Southwestern Michigan College, the Early College initiative provides high school students with an opportunity to earn high school and college credit through a variety of options, including dual enrollment, direct credit, articulation or online course opportunities.  Early College exposes students to various levels of college classes while in high school as a way to encourage them to succeed both before they graduate from high school, and after.

Davenport University and Ferris State University both offer students the opportunity to earn college credits through their dual enrollment, online courses and articulation.  All three of these options allow students to begin their college transcript while they are in high school, possibly reducing the time to degree and the cost of a college education.

Whether students earn college credits through a community college or a university, these experiences expose students to the rigor of a college education while in high school, encouraging them to  succeed both in high school and in college.
