Class Description

This class is designed for the student who has a genuine interest in learning welding as a part of his/her future occupation. Many areas of welding, including oxyacetylene, electric arc, mig, and tig will be taught. Manual and automatic flame cutting will also be included. Primary emphasis will be on job entry skills.

Career Outlook

Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. In this process, heat is applied to metal pieces, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond.

Automated welding is used in an increasing number of production processes. In these instances, a machine or robot performs the welding tasks while monitored by a welding machine operator.Job prospects should be excellent.

Median hourly earnings of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers were $16.13 in 2008.
