Career Outlook

Accountants and auditors help to ensure that the Nation's firms are run efficiently, its public records kept accurately, and its taxes paid properly and on time.

An increase in the number of businesses, changing financial laws and regulations, and increased scrutiny of company finances will drive the growth of accountants and auditors.

Overall job opportunities should be favorable, although job seekers who obtain professional recognition through certification or license, a master's degree, proficiency in accounting and auditing computer software, or specialized expertise will have an advantage.

In 2019, the median wage and annual salary earnings of accountants and auditors were $71,550.
